Thursday, the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Awards Luncheon honoring businesses with several awards including two new ones.

The event, which is sponsored by 100.9 WIFM Radio, is at Cross Creek Country Club at noon and costs $25 per person. The special guest speaker will be Nicole Ducouer, an anchor with WXII 12 News.

“It’s a real special night,” said Betty Ann Collins, the president of the chamber. She said that in the past, the awards were given out during an annual meeting held by the chamber during which new members are inducted and the citizen of the year award is given out.

“We’d thought some of these other awards were rushed through and not given proper attention, so we pulled these awards away and gave them a separate luncheon,” she said.

The awards include outstanding public service, ambassador of the year, excellence of traveling tourism, small business, and a business and education award. The two new awards include the green award for a business that utilizes the green initiative and the longevity award.

“I wish we could recognize each one, but there can only be one recipient in each category,” Collins said. “We appreciate the associate sponsors, and especially appreciate the event sponsor 100.9 WIFM Radio.”
