• A Mount Airy man is facing two felony charges of obtaining property by false pretenses in connection with incidents at Food Lion on West Pine Street, according to city police department reports. David Lee Thomas, 26, of 109 Guinness Lane, who was charged Sunday, is accused of returning property for monetary gain at the store, but additional details were unavailable. Police were dispatched to Food Lion in reference to the alleged wrongdoing and Thomas was charged after a brief investigation. He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond and is to be in District Court on Jan. 29.
• Timothy David Upchurch, 36, of 136 Land Raider Trail, was arrested Friday as a fugitive from justice. Police encountered Upchurch on Churchill Lane in reference to a report of an intoxicated driver and he was found to be wanted in Virginia on an unspecified matter. Upchurch was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and was to have made a first appearance in District Court Wednesday.
• Jacquelyn Brittani Swaim, 23, of 157 Brigham Lane, was charged last Thursday with obtaining a prescription drug by fraud/forgery. Swaim was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond and is to appear in Surry District Court on Feb. 27.
• Marria Estella Manzanares, 22, of 117 Summer Crestway Trail, was served with a criminal summons on a violation of failing to return rental property during a traffic stop last Thursday. No court date was listed for Manzanares.
• Gary Christopher Hicinbothem Jr., 19, of 131 North View Drive, was cited for larceny last Thursday at Walmart, where an employee detained him for allegedly concealing merchandise valued at $30, including hair dye, earrings and batteries, which was recovered. Hicinbothem is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Jan. 22.
• Angel Noel Tate, 21, of 321 Eleanor Ave., was charged with a felony violation of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud/forgery on Dec. 26. Tate is free on an unsecured bond and is to be in District Court on Feb. 27.
• Two men are facing multiple violations stemming from a fight call at the Shell station at Westwood Shopping Center on West Lebanon Street on Dec. 13. Shane Everett McMillian, 21, of 128 South View St., is accused of injury to personal property and also was found to have two outstanding orders for arrest for reckless driving and no operator’s license. Daniel James Galyean, 21, of 125 Flower Charm Lane, is accused of disorderly conduct and resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer. During an investigation related to the fight call, Galyean “continued to yell obscenities” and pulled away and struggled when officers attempted to arrest him, police records state.
Galyean was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in District Court on Jan. 24, with McMillian held under a $2,205 cash bond and a Jan. 13 court date set for him.
• Two teens — Jermey Junior Brewer Walker and Anthony Danny Vaughn Jr., both 17 and of 147 S. Bridgewater Road — were cited for larceny at Walmart on Dec. 12, involving merchandise with a total value of $37 which was recovered. They are to be in District Court on Jan. 22.
• A Dec. 12 break-in at the home of Katie Easter Levan on Bluff Street resulted in the theft of a Gerber knife with a 7-inch blade, pewter in color, which was valued at $30. Entry was gained by breaking a window of a secured door.
• Michael Kenneth Chambers of Sarah Street told police on Dec. 11 that his black-leather wallet was taken from a counter at Dollar General on South Main Street in November, after being left unattended. It contained an undisclosed sum of cash; Visa, Master Card and State Employees Credit Union credit cards; a Carter Bank and Trust card; a driver’s license; a Social Security card; a birth certificate; and pictures. A white male was identified as a possible suspect, but no arrests have been reported.
