PILOT MOUNTAIN — The Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix defeated the East Surry Cardinal girls at home Tuesday by a score of 50-40.

East Surry Head Coach Keith Gunter said the Cardinals played a Phoenix varsity girls team who is big and athletic. He said the Phoenix played their hearts out to get the victory against the Cardinals.

The Lady Cards led 28-19 at half-time but only scored three points the entire third quarter. The third quarter ended with the Lady Phoenix on top of the Cards 38-31.

“The bottom line is we did not do what we needed to do to win and they did,” Gunter said.

The Lady Cards failed to get the rebounds needed to win against the Lady Phoenix team and the loose balls went to them, he said.

“We got the ball where we wanted it, but we were just not strong with it,” he said.

Sydney Mosley scored the most points for the Cardinals with 13.

Keri Fulp scored 11, Gabi Jessup 8, Kaci Markle 4, Sydney Marion 2 and Laken Bowman 2.

The game high scorer was Kyala Searcy of the Lady Phoenix team with 14 points.

The Cardinals play North Stokes Wednesday at home and moved to a 14-4 record.
