Mr. Rufus Charles Hamby, age 69, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Wake Forrest Medical Center. He was born on January 22, 1944 in Ashe County to the late Jesse R. and Eula Owen Hamby. Mr. Hamby retired from Hanes Brand and was a member and deacon of Indian Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Hamby is survived by his loving wife; Janie Faye Hamby; two daughters, Paula Hamby of Greensboro, Julie Hamby of Ararat; two sons, Timothy (Nicole) Hamby of Winston-Salem, Phillip Hamby of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Gwyn, Della Long, Veneta Edwards, Cheryle Hopkins; two brothers, Alton Hamby, and John Hamby. Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Ezekiel Gray Hamby; and brother, James Hamby. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Cox-Needham Chapel with Rev. Chris McMillian and Rev. Frank Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cox-Needham Memorial Fund, PO Box 37 Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 for help with Medical Expenses. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Junior Gwyn and Timothy Crotts.
