PILOT MOUNTAIN — The Pilot Mountain Board of Commissioner’s regular meeting on Feb. 25 is scheduled to open with a presentation by Surry County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President Faye Carter. She will be speaking on the groups mission in recognition of February as Black History Month.

Resident Michael McCarty has signed up to speak during the public forum portion of the meeting about the subject of elections. Town Manager Homer Dearmin said budget amendments in the new business portion of the meeting could include a recap of the Pilot Center roof repair project, and formalizing how the proceeds from the sale of the center will go to the repairs.

The commissioners could also consider approval of a 2013 contract with Gibson & Company for the annual town audit. According to Dearmin, this firm has done the town audit for the past five years. The board could also take action declaring some broken police department communication equipment as surplus property so that it may be sold. This action is routinely taken as a record keeping procedure.

A discussion of fire hydrant painting and repairs by Commissioner Gary Bell is also scheduled for the meeting. “I’d like to see our plans and make sure they are all operable and safe,” said Bell. “We need to have our hydrants tested and updated to be sure they are safe and our residents deserve that.”

Other agenda items for the meeting could include department reports from the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Board, Police department, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services, public works and water and wastewater departments. A town manager and town finance report is also on the proposed agenda for the regular session.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will be held in the board room at the town hall.
