Several local and area teams are in action Monday with the start of the state basketball playoffs.

Local schools are hosting three girls’ games Monday night: East Surry, North Surry and Surry Central. The Lady Bears are on the road.

East Surry, Mount Airy and North Surry are on the road for the boys, and Surry Central didn’t make the boys’ field.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association lists 7 p.m. as the start time for games, but schools can bump that around to fit their own schedules.

East Surry and Surry Central will start their games at 6:30 p.m. The North Surry start time was not available at press time.

1A Boys

Winston-Salem Prep (26-2) received one of the two top seeds (along with Hendersonville) in the West and hosts Chatham Central (7-15).

Mount Airy (13-11) is a 12th seed and travels to Albemarle (20-3).

Two conference rivals meet again as South Stokes (15-10) hosts Bishop McGuinness (14-11) in the 7/10 matchup.

Elkin (20-7) is a third seed and hosts East Surry (15-11), the 14th seed.

North Wilkes (12-12) hosts Blue Ridge (8-16) in the 6/11 game.

West Wilkes (10-15) goes to Hiwassee Dam (12-14) in the other 7/10 matchup.

2A Boys

North Surry (9-16) is a ninth seed traveling to Lexington (10-16).

Starmount (9-16) is a 10th seed going to Piedmont (20-5).

1A Girls

Five of the six 1A schools in the Northwest Conference made the field. Only North Stokes missed the cut.

Mount Airy (13-11) is a ninth seed going to Central Academy (9-15).

East Surry (18-7) is a sixth seed hosting Cherryville (4-21).

Bishop McGuinness (19-7) hosts Chatham Central (11-13) in the 4/13 matchup.

Winston-Salem Prep (14-11) is the 12th seed going to West Montgomery (16-5).

South Stokes (13-12) is the 15th seed and travels to South Davidson (23-2).

From the Mountain Valley Conference, West Wilkes (20-7) hosts East Wilkes (9-15), and North Wilkes (22-2) hosts Andrews (9-17).

2A Girls

The Lady Greyhounds (23-3) are a second seed and host Lexington (12-13).

Surry Central (17-9) is a seventh seed hosting Ashe County (12-12).

If the Hounds and Eagles both win, the two teams would meet for the fourth time this season in the second round.

West Stokes did not make the field.
