A man listed on police records as homeless is now lodged in the Surry County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond after allegedly stealing a Humvee and taking a gun from a pickup.
Charges against Jeremy Brent Harvey, 22, were announced Thursday by the Mount Airy Police Department in connection with incidents occurring earlier this week.
Harvey is accused of larceny of a motor vehicle, two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony and misdemeanor larceny, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report by the arresting officer, S.M. Gibson.
The case originated with two crimes discovered Monday.
One involved the theft of a 2007 Humvee, valued at $25,000 and owned by Marvin Vice, from Vice’s home on North Main Street. Also listed as stolen were a Louis Vuitton pocketbook and wallet valued altogether at $2,480, miscellaneous credit cards, a driver’s license, a Social Security card and a bank card.
In the other incident Monday, a Kimber Tactical Pro pistol and holster said to be worth $1,320 and a $150 Garmin GPS unit were reported missing from a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Blake Nathaniel White. The theft occurred at White’s residence on Virginia Street, with the secured vehicle entered through a door.
Early Tuesday evening, Harvey was found walking on West Pine Street, wearing clothing matching that of the suspect in the stolen vehicle case. Missing items also were found in Harvey’s pockets, police records state.
Harvey is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 15.
