A vendor meeting for the Surry County farmers markets will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Surry County Center for the N.C. Cooperative Extension, located at 210 N. Main St. in Dobson.

All potential and past vendors are invited to attend the meeting in order to discuss the upcoming farmers market.

Vendors must reside and produce the items they sell within Surry County or the adjacent counties of Stokes, Yadkin, Wilkes and Alleghany in North Carolina and Patrick and Carroll counties in Virginia.

Farm inspections are required and must be conducted prior to the start of the markets.

Vendors may sell produce, plants, nuts, honey and bulbs grown or produced by the seller or on their farm. Preserves, pickles, relish and other “low acid” canned foods may be sold if certified by the state of North Carolina. Other examples of allowed items include cut or dried flowers, firewood, certified composts, baked goods, meat sold by licensed meat handlers, as well as hand-crafted items. For a full list of items allowed and guidelines for vendors, visit the website at http://surry.ces.ncsu.edu and click on “Surry County Farmers Market” on the left side of the page. Applications, further details, and fees are also available at the website.

The Mount Airy Farmers Market will be held on Tuesdays beginning April 16, through Sept. 17. In past years, the market has added Thursdays in July.

The Elkin Farmers Market will operate on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning April 20 and lasting through Sept. 17.

Call 401-8025 to register for the meeting.
