WALNUT COVE — The East Surry Cardinals boys tennis team won on the road against the South Stokes Sauras on Thursday by a score of 8-1 in its second conference match of the season.
The Cards battled the Sauras on Thursday after rallying in a tight match against West Stokes Wednesday at home and losing by one set.
Head Coach Lindsey Haywood said, “I am very proud of the team’s effort and how we held our composure yesterday and today.”
There was one change in the line-up after Wednesday’s match against the Wildcats. Daniel Moore played at the fifth seed and won 6-0, 6-1.
At the number one seed, Tanner Hartley won 6-1, 6-1. At the number two seed, Saura Chris Sinon won over Cardinal Canean Johnson 6-4, 6-2. At the number three seed, Austin Johnson won 6-2, 6-2. At the fourth seed, Zach Koons won 6-0, 6-2. At the sixth seed, Daniel Hancock won 6-2, 6-3.
All Cards doubles team won against the Sauras. Hartley and Austin Johnson won in doubles 6-5. Moore and Hancock won 8-3 and Koons and Pardue won 8-3.
The Cards will play a rematch on Monday at 4 p.m. against West Stokes.
