LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Surry Runnin’ Patriot girls clinched third place in the consolation round in the East Coast Liberty Tournament on Friday after beating the Frederick Force in the consolation round, 46-29.

In the tournament’s opening, the Pats had their opening game in a three-way pool against the Bristol Titans and won by a score of 54-44 against the team. They led in scoring all four quarters.

“We came out, they ran zone defense and we shot the ball well in the first half,” said Head Coach Todd Hill. He said the Pats got really good looks on offense and took advantage of it.

Hill said the Pats controlled the boards on rebounds and had an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter because they took care of the ball well.

Joye Harrison led in the opener with 17 points, Jessica Boyd had 16, Sydney Bedsaul had nine, Kaylee Paris six, Camille Fishel five, and Krissa Hill one.

The number one seeded Crown Knights of Atlanta, Ga., however, dominated in the second round and won 69-44 over the Pats. Hill said the team shot seven, three-pointers in the first quarter and shot 63 percent. Bedsaul scored 17, Harrison seven, and Boyd, Ashley Marshall and Paris scored six each. Fishel had two. Marshall led with 11 rebounds.

Elizabeth Thatt for Crown was the game high scorer with 21 points.

“They are a very good team and shot 63 percent from the field,” said Hill.

The Pats then beat St. John Saints by a score of 66-36, and Krissa Hill and Emily Marshall gave them a lot of good minutes off the bench, he said.

Bedsaul led in scoring for the Pats with 20 points and had the game high. Grace Nyman for St. John was their high scorer with 12.

The Pats then lost to the Knoxville Ambassadors by a 43-28 score in the bracketing round which was 4A. Bedsaul led again for the Pats with 11 points, and Tori Costa of Knoxville had 12 as game high scorer.

This put the Pats in the battle for third place consolation and they clinched in the end on a victory note.

“It is nice to end on a win,” said Hill.
