A disturbance at a local restaurant Thursday night led to a Lowgap man being jailed on multiple violations, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.

Bruce Webb Simcox Jr., 62, of 241 Carson Creek Road, initially was arrested for second-degree trespassing in the parking lot of Chili’s on U.S. 601. He also allegedly was found in possession of a stolen firearm that was concealed near the driver’s seat of his SUV, police said.

Simcox further refused to get into a patrol car and while officers were placing him inside he allegedly tore the rubber casing off a rear door. The man also refused to cooperate with being fingerprinted and photographed when taken to the police station for processing, according to arrest records.

As a result of the incident, Simcox was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, a felony; carrying a concealed weapon; resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer; being intoxicated and disruptive; and injury to personal property, in addition to the trespassing offense.

The Lowgap man was held in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court in Dobson on June 18.

Police said the value of the firearm recovered is about $500.
