Bears rally to win, 3-2
Mount Airy roared back from a 2-1 deficit to South Stokes Thursday to pick up the Northwest 1A/2A conference win in five sets.
The Granite Bears started with a 25-18 win before dropping the next two games 25-17 and 25-16 to South Stokes.
Mount Airy rallied in the fourth game 25-18 to force a fifth and final game to 15 points, which the Bears took 15-9.
Mount Airy coach Sarah Knott said her team showed it wasn’t afraid to come back from a deficit.
“This bunch they get down like that and they don’t mind fighting back and they came back and pulled it out. Game four they wanted to win and took care of business and game five we got off to a quick start. When you are playing to 15 you don’t have room to play around a lot.”
After giving Bishop McGuinness 19 free points off serving errors earlier this week, the Bears did much better Thursday.
Meredith Beasley led Mount Airy by going 23-of-25 from the service line, followed by Jenna Clement and Katie Joyce who both went 16-of-18.
Skylar Davis has five kills, followed Clement with four kills and Lauren Smith with three kills.
