DOBSON — The Surry Central soccer team rebounded from its first loss of the season to dispose of Northwest 1A/2A foe North Surry Tuesday.
After a 4-1 loss to Forbush Monday, the Golden Eagles came out with a vengeance, scoring early and often and displaying their versatility with eight goals coming from seven players. Antonio Talavera (two goals), Orlando Perez, Ed Lira, Edwin Alonso, Amado Perez, Ranfari Ramirez and Luis Ortiz each scored.
“We got back on track tonight a little bit,” Surry Central coach Blake Roth said. “We dropped to Forbush last night, which I’m not going to complain about. It got the target off our back a little bit. It was a great conference matchup.
“According to last night’s score, we’re not the best in the 2A West and that’s what we’re striving for.”
The Golden Eagles (16-1, 10-1) are still conference contenders, while the Greyhounds (2-9, 2-9) are in their first year after a hiatus due to a lack of interest in the sport at the school.
Roth and North Surry coach Dustin Webb were roommates at Appalachian State. Webb, who was the best man at Roth’s wedding, hopes he can emulate his good friend’s coaching success.
“The first season for a program is always tough,” Webb said. “Maybe we can be close to where they are. We got some young players and maybe we can stick with it. That would be the goal for us.”

The Cardinals (9-6-1, 6-4-1 Northwest 1A/2A) host South Stokes Thursday.
