Mount Airy Granite Bears

Ben Hinson — The junior quarterback ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Granite Bears past North Stokes 54-0 last Friday.

The Defense — A week after North Stokes put up 58 points on North Surry the Granite Bears ‘D’ shut out the Vikings in dominating fashion. North Stokes, who entered the game at 5-1, crossed the Mount Airy 50-yard line once late in the fourth quarter.

East Surry Cardinals

Jorge Padron — “Hip, hip! JORGE!” was the cry of the East Surry faithful Friday against Bishop McGuinness, as Padron nailed a 27 yard field goal to put the Cardinals on the board. East won 9-7.

Hunter Diamont — Diamont fought through a bum knee to lead East to victory over Bishop. He finished with 107 yards on 27 carries and the Cardinals lone touchdown, an 11-yard strike up the gut in the fourth quarter to give his team the win.

North Surry Greyhounds

Joston Phipps — The speedy senior had 13 touches for 301 yards of total offense in leading the Greyhounds to their first win of the season over South Stokes. Phipps had a 91 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, 174 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards for five total touchdowns

Andrew Pennington — The sophomore linebacker gave coach Brian Hampton’s team a defensive spark it hadn’t seen this in his first varsity week of the season.

Surry Central Golden Eagles

Granath Musson — The junior linebacker did a little bit of everything in Friday night’s loss at West Stokes. He had two pass breakups, numerous tackles and a couple big hits, which Surry Central coach Monty Southern said have been lacking from his defense.

Garrett Draughn — The two-year letter winner has been one of the Golden Eagles’ most reliable offensive lineman this season. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior has helped open up holes for the Golden Eagles’ run-based offense.
