The Bears put up decent showings in the first and third games, losing 25-17 and 25-18 respectively, but lost their footing in a rough second game, dropping hard 25-7.
East Surry seniors Morgan Chilton and Tia Joyce along with freshman Keri Kulp combined for 21 kills. Chilton had 10, Joyce seven and Fulp four.
Hayley Shelton led the Cardinals offensive attack from the serving line in the second set with four aces and 18 straight points.
“You always hate to end a senior night with a loss,” Mount Airy coach Sarah Knott said. “There was some disappointment because they went in energetic, ready to try to beat East Surry. In the first game we came out strong but in the second game we got way behind off of one server. She scored 18 points on us and you can’t allow a server to score that many. In the third game we hung with them a little better, we just could never get over that hump.”
Mount Airy senior Katie Joyce was 11-of-11 from service line, followed by Skylar Davis, who finished 9-of-9.
Lauren Smith led the Bears with three kills, followed by Jenna Clement with two.
East Surry finishes their regular season 12-2 in the conference and 13-5 overall.
