The library is in need of more book donations for the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale. Our Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale will begin on April 14 with our First Choice Sale from 5 until 7 p.m. The sale continues on April 15 and April 16 during regular library hours, and the Half-Price Sale is on April 17 during regular library hours. Please bring any books, or movies, to the library before our book sale begins on April 14.

If you’re doing a spring clean-up at your house, then we will also take donations for our second annual Yard Sale! Bring any items you’d like to donate to the library on April 16, before 4 p.m.,, so that we may use them in the yard sale on April 17. All donations are appreciated, and are tax deductible.

Wii Wednesdays have sign-ups to play beginning at 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday. In order to play the Wii games, players will have to have a library card in good standing.

Game Night continues on Thursday nights, beginning at 6 p.m. The library provides cards and board games for those who would like to play. New players are always welcome!

Join us for Book Chats. Book Chats is an informal book club, where we gather to discuss books that everyone is currently reading. These discussions are open to the public, and are free of charge. Join us for our next meeting on April 26 at 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you!

Join our movie-based book club, Picture Books. Each month we’ll each read a book that was adapted into a movie, then we gather together to watch the movie, and afterwards compare the two. The book and movie for April is “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult. We’ll watch the movie on April 13 at 6 p.m. The book club books are provided by the library, and the movie is free of charge. Open for ages teen to adult.

The Community Book Club will always meet on the fourth Thursday night each month. Join us on April 22 at 7 p.m.

The Mount Airy Public Library will be closed on Monday in observance of the Easter holiday.

One on One is a new program we will begin on Tuesday. This will be a discussion of Surry, Carroll and Patrick County history and genealogy. Class begins at 6 p.m.

Video game designer James Barrell has re-scheduled his visit with us. He will be coming to speak on April 9 at 3:30 p.m. James has worked on games for Facebook, Nintendo DS, and Wii, among others. He’ll also tell how he got into gaming, and how he was able to make this his livelihood.

Author, and WXII anchor, Cameron Kent will be our visiting author for April. He will be at the library on April 13 at noon. Kent will be discussing his new book, The Road to Devotion.

April is National Poetry Month, and the library will be having a celebration on April 20 at 6 p.m. Visit with us that night to hear local people, of all ages, read their poetry. A reception will follow.

The library will be closed on April 23 for a staff development day.

The Friends of the Library are hosting a visit by best-selling author of the “Miss Julia” series of books, Ann Ross, on April 25. She will appear at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church on Rockford Street at 2 p.m. that day. Stop by to visit with Mrs. Ross while she’s here!

Pre-school Story Hours happen weekly. Library assistant Jenny Wright leads the Wednesday story times, with the 2-year-olds at 9:30 a.m., and the 3-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. Assistant Librarian Tommie Smith leads the 4- and 5-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. These events are free, and open to the public.
