Hundreds of walkers will set out this Saturday morning to raise money to help prevent premature births in support for the March for Babies. More than 350 participants are expected to participate in the March of Dimes’ annual event.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Veteran’s Park. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. and is 3.5 miles, part of which will be on the Emily B. Taylor Greenway.

Debbi Patterson, community director with the March of Dimes, said the campaign is going well this year despite the economy.

“I hope people can get a chance to come out and walk. People are doing all they can, and that’s all we can ask,” Patterson said.

Last year there were around 350 walkers. She said she is expecting at least that many participants this year.

“Our ambassador family, Kevin and Jodi Tarkovich, are excited about this year. They will have their whole family there. They are excited to be a part of this,” Patterson said.

Food and music will be provided at this year’s celebration.

Those who still want to participate can register the day of the event.
