This year’s 59th annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony will be observed on May 6 at 11:45 a.m. on the front lawn of the Mount Airy Municipal Building.

On this day, the Greater Mount Airy Ministerial Association and the citizens of Surry County will join millions who will unite in prayer at this time and observe this year’s theme, “Prayer for such a time as this.”

The theme is based on the verse from Nahum 1:7, which states, “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

The agenda for this year’s ceremony is listed below with the approximate times:

11:45 a.m. — Musical Prelude by Ms. Evelyne Gunter and Ms. Mildred Gillespie

Noon — Mount Airy Ministerial Association welcome by the Rev. Bob Josey

12:02 p.m. — Proclamation by Mayor Deborah Cochran

12:05 p.m. — Prayer for America by Dr. Billy Blakley

12:10 p.m. — Special Music by Evelyne Gunter and Mildred Gillespie

12:15 p.m. — Sermon by the Rev. Lonnie Gunter
