MOUNT AIRY — Northern Hospital of Surry County celebrates National Surgical Technologist Week Sept. 19-25.

Each year, National Surgical Technologist Week is an opportunity to recognize and educate the community about the vital role that surgical technologists play in operating rooms across the country.

“Northern Hospital is fortunate to have the caliber of surgical technologists that we have”, said Brian Beasley, director of the Surgery Center at Northern Hospital.

The hospital employs five full-time surgical technologists with 50-plus combined years of experience working behind the scenes with the surgeons and nursing staff to provide quality care to patients.

Surgical technologists play a key role as members of the NHSC surgical team, from the handling of instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during surgical procedures to anticipating the needs of the surgeon and having the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during surgery, while monitoring the sterile field.

The hospital is honoring the week with a bulletin board displayed in the Surgery Center waiting room. The board displays education on the profession of a Certified Surgical Technologist and celebrates their role.
