Mount Airy (15-0, 19-1) will play at East Surry Thursday before the conference tournament next week.
While the overall score was perfect, the individual matches were hard fought. Bishop second-seed Marie Petrangeli extended Merry Kessler before falling 6-4, 6-2. In the sixth seeds, Morgan Greenwood outlasted Maribelle Copley 7-5, 6-3.
“Bishop is always one of the teams we dread playing,” said Coach Scott Kniskern. “Our tougher competition are Bishop McGuinness and North Stokes. Since we’ve gone through the conference, we knew this team was the next strongest.”
Top-seed Jordan Jackson won decisively 6-0, 6-1 over Katy Jones. Third-seed Elizabeth Dinkins played a methodical match, keeping the ball in play and not taking risks; she defeated Megan McDowell 6-3, 6-0. In fourth seeds, Jade Hughes beat Adaire Hudson 6-3, 6-1. And in fifth seeds, Davi Barbour won over Anna Komsa 6-1, 6-0.
On Monday, Kniskern rested his two top seeds for doubles play, but kept them both out this time. Jackson and Kessler edged Jones and McDowell 8-5. The other doubles wins were Dinkins/Hughes over Petrangeli/Hudson 8-4 and Barbour/Greenwood over Komsa/Copley 8-0.
