The Northwestern Regional Library is offering amnesty days this week through Saturday for patrons of the libraries in Surry, Stokes, Yadkin and Alleghany counties.

Those with overdue books and fines can help someone else in return by simply bringing in canned or non-perishable food items, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant and fines and fees will be forgiven.

“If you don’t have fines or fees, you, too, can help. All donations are welcome,” said Pat Gwyn, branch librarian for Mount Airy. “This is a good-will effort to help our patrons and add to our local food banks. The need for help is greater at this time of year.”

Surry County libraries will contributing all food that is collected to the Yokefellow Ministries, Foothills Food Bank and Pilot Mountain Outreach Ministry.

“We hope that everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to feed the hungry during the holidays,” Gwyn said.
