The four local high schools announced new dates for the sporting events canceled on Friday.

Despite a high in the mid-40s, all Surry County Schools events were postponed because of snow and ice overnight, the first weather-related stoppage of the winter season.

Mount Airy High School’s teams were all competing against county schools, so those games were affected as well.

The big rivalry basketball games between Mount Airy and visiting North Surry have been moved to Wednesday.

Mount Airy’s boys team was set to play Patrick County, Va., Wednesday, but that game has been canceled.

Both the Bears boys and girls teams are off on Tuesday, while North Surry goes to West Stokes Tuesday.

Including the Mount Airy game and Surry Central on Friday, the Greyhounds will play three games in four days.

The Golden Eagles also will have three games in one week after moving its basketball games with Bishop McGuinness to Jan. 28. The Eagles go to West Stokes Jan. 29 and host Mount Airy Feb. 1.

East Surry has rescheduled both basketball and wrestling for the same day next month.

The Cardinals will travel to West Stokes for basketball Feb. 4, while the wrestling team will host the Wildcats on that same Monday.

The Cards’ basketball teams only have one other game set for that week, hosting Bishop the next day.

Surry Central had its wrestling season ending on Feb. 1, but now will travel to Bishop on Feb. 5.

On that same Tuesday, North Surry will host Mount Airy in wrestling.

That makes this match the final home date for the Hounds, so that is when the school will hold Senior Night, noted Coach Eric Jessup.

Feb. 5 would have been Mount Airy’s Senior Night, but that match with South Stokes was bumped over a day to make room for North. The Bears will hold Senior Night Feb. 6.
