DOBSON — Former Dobson Town Board member Thomas Folger Hollingsworth died Monday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. According to the Surry County Board of Elections, records indicate Hollingsworth served on the board in 1975.

“Tommy was a good, community-minded man,” said Commissioner Wayne Atkins, who did not serve with Hollingsworth but knew him personally. “He was always positive and he liked to see us (Dobson) moving forward.”

Hollingsworth was born in Surry County June 23, 1929. He began his college career at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and later graduated from Guilford College. He owned and operated Hollingsworth Appraisal Company and served the Dobson United Methodist Church in capacities including adult Sunday school teacher, choir member and administrative council member.

Hollingsworth was noted for his mastery of crossword puzzles and was an avid reader and golfer. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Folger Hollingsworth, two daughters, Lauri Ellen Hollingsworth and husband Earl Rhoades of Asheville and Anne Hollingsworth Knight and husband Ron, of Charlotte.

Funeral services for Hollingsworth will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Dobson United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Sammons officiating.
