A Mount Airy man who is believed to have stolen guns and ammunition and then sold some of the property at a local business is being held under a $205,000 secured bond, police say.

William Blaine Wheeler, 24, of 1214 N. Ridge St., is facing charges in both Mount Airy and Stokes County.

The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office had notified the Mount Airy Police Department on Monday regarding cases of breaking and entering and larceny in the neighboring jurisdiction, which involved the theft of several weapons along with ammunition.

It was thought that a portion of the stolen property had been sold at a business in Mount Airy, which police did not identify, with investigators later recovering some of the missing ammo.

After a brief investigation, city detectives issued warrants for Wheeler charging him with feloniously obtaining property by false pretenses and possession of stolen property. Stokes County authorities subsequently filed warrants accusing the local resident of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

Wheeler was arrested by Mount Airy officers toward the end of the week without incident. During the arrest, more stolen property along with burglary tools were recovered, with additional warrants issued charging him with possession of the property and tools.

More charges are pending against Wheeler in Stokes County, city police say.

He is being held in the Surry County Jail.

This thief, and that is exactly what he is, doesn't deserve to see the light of day for years to come. I don't know if this was drug induced or if he was just outright mean. Breaking into a relatives home over 8 times is just sickening. I hope he gets what he deserves. 20 plus years. Makes me sick!
