HAYNES
MOUNT AIRY — Mr. John Bill Haynes Jr., 63, of Mount Airy, passed away at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Mr. Haynes was born in Surry County Aug. 2, 1948, the son of the late John Bill Haynes Sr. and Catherine Belton Haynes. He graduated from Mount Airy High School, got his degree in business from Appalachian State University and became a certified public accountant. Mr. Haynes was a founding partner of Haynes, Strand and Company with offices in Mount Airy and Greensboro. He was past president and a member of the Mount Airy Rotary Club. He was the district governor of Rotary District #7690 from 1999 to 2000. Mr. Haynes served as president of the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce and treasurer of the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. He was currently serving as treasurer of the Surry Medical Ministries and was currently serving on the board of directors of the Southeastern Kidney Council. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, where he loved attending the Emmanuel Sunday School Class. He also loved attending Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy with his wife, Barbara. The most important thing in his life was his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. John was an inspiration to so many including his associates at Haynes, Strand and all the many clients he has served through the years. Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife of 17 years, Barbara Erickson Haynes of the home; his son, John Belton Haynes of the home; his stepchildren, whom he loved as his own, Beth Etringer Hudson and her husband, Andy, of Charlotte and James Lee Etringer of Mount Airy; his stepgrandchildren, Zach and Alec Hudson of Charlotte; his special aunt, Lydia Gibson and her husband, Zeb, of Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem; his cousins, Jewal and Ann Haynes of Hickory, and their children, Jonathan and Lyvonda Haynes and their children, Nathan and Taylor Rae, all of Mount Airy, and Meredith and Michael Boughman of Durham, Jeannne Tucker of Knoxville, Tenn., Richard and Donna Gibson of Florence, S.C., and Alan and Catherine Gibson of Asheville, and their children; sister-in-law, Gail Cafferata and her husband, Robert, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and their children, Lisa and Derek Zurn of Sudburg, Mass., and their children, Declan and Annika and Heather Cafferata of Santa Rosa; and Dianne Sharpe Haynes, mother of his son, John Belton Haynes. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy. The Haynes family will receive friends in the Fireside Room at First Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 714 N.
