Mr. Richard Allen Simmons, husband of Glenda Hiatt Simmons, exited this mortal existence on May 19, 2012. He was born in Surry County, rural area Holly Springs, March 24, 1937, to the late Garnet and Alice Calloway Simmons. He was a retiree of 47 years with Floyd S. Pike Electric, presently Pike Electric LLC, where he was a manager/supervisor in field operations and an occupational career in the field of electricity having served many of these years in eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio with American Electric Power companies. His later years were in North Carolina serving Duke Power Company and co-op’s Randolph EMC, Surry-Yakin EMC, and also several adjoining manufacturing companies, R.J. Reynolds, N.C. Granite Corp., Sara Lee, Thomasville Furniture and others. He enjoyed his hobbies of cattle farming and fishing. He was also well known for his knowledge of Blue Grass music, its organization and life history of each artist. In addition to his wife, Glenda, survivors include his beloved children, a son and daughter-in-law, Audie G. Simmons and Mary Faye of Mount Airy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Audrey S. Watson and Stan and Angela J. Simmons and former son-in-law, Mark Collins, all of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Matthew G. Simmons, Justin R. Simmons, Amber D. and husband Ricky Reid, Shawn A. Watson, Corbin C. Collins, and Lecksi J. Collins; a great-grandson, Hunter R. Reid; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Leigh S. and Burney Adams and Sally S. and Roy Utt; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Simmons and Betty and E. Franklin Simmons and Betty, all of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Leon Riddle and his wife, Ina, of Lowgap; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Allen Simmons; and a sister, Janet S. Riddle. Mr. Simmons had membership and a strong testimonial of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A service of thanks and celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with services conducted by Elder Frank Boles, Elder J.C. Haymore, Elder Jeffrey Long, and Elder Jeff Boles. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
