MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Garry Emerson Scearce, 52, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Scearce was born in Surry County Feb. 15, 1960, the son of the late George and Ella Sue Scearce. Mr. Scearce was retired from Surry County Emergency Medical Services after 30 years of service. Mr. Scearce was currently employed as a nurse supervisor at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. He also was currently serving on the Surry County Board of Commissioners and was an active trustee and deacon of the Victory Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Mr. Scearce is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Vicki Bowman Scearce of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Nicole Grey Scearce of Mount Airy; sister, Pamela Scearce and fiancé, Tim Burkhart, of Mount Airy; brother, Mike Scearce and fiancée, Andrea Burgess, of Kannapolis; mother-in-law, Nellie H. Bowman of Mount Airy; sisters-in-law, Karen Edwards and husband, Tim, of Mount Airy, Dawn James and husband, Keith, of Mount Airy and Marsha Scearce of Pageland, S.C.; an aunt, Carolyn Hardy and husband, Joe, of Danville, Va.; an uncle, Buddy Scearce of Danville; nieces, Hillary Haigler and husband, Jason, of Pageland and Macey James and Hollie James, both of Mount Airy; two great-nephews, Cody and Triston Haigler of Pageland; and best friends, Mark and Janice King of Mount Airy and Jessica King of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scearce was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William Bowman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Victory Baptist Church with the service conducted by the Rev. Joey Jessup with interment to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Scearce family will receive friends at the Victory Baptist Church on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Victory Baptist Church, c/o Monty Leonard, P.O.
