WILKESBORO — Mrs. Betty Lou Transou Shelton, 83, of Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with the Rev. Stella Perrin officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Mrs. Shelton was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Forsyth County to Fred and Kate Todd Transou. She worked with the Wilkes Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and was a former substitute teacher for the Wilkes County School System. Mrs. Shelton worked on numerous committees at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, at the Wilkes Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and for the Wilkes County Relay for Life. She was chairperson for many years for the Love Life Tree at the hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ezra J. Shelton; a son, James Kirkman Shelton; and a brother, Bill Transou. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Shelton and wife, Alicia, of Apex; seven grandchildren, Kristin Shelton, Brittany Shelton, Macrae Shelton, Merrick Kemp, Allison Millsaps Eckley, Elizabeth Millsaps and Jonathan Millsaps; in-laws, Pam Shelton Millsaps and Sue Transou; and several nieces and nephews.
