MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Ramon Simmons, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away at Northern Hospital of Surry County on Wednesday, July 25, 2012. He was born on Sept. 6, 1924, to the late Ephraim and Riller Simmons. Mr. Simmons served in U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired painter, farmer and cattleman. Mr. Simmons is survived by daughters, Shelby Seats and husband, Don, of Pilot Mountain and Joey Kelley and husband, Bret, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Kristine Martens, Caroline Kelley and Jackson Kelley; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rufus Willard of Lewisville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Pike Simmons; and a sister, Tessie Mears. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Moody Funeral Home with Chaplain Justin Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Garden. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express its appreciation to the skilled nursing unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care Mr. Simmons received during his illness.
