MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Clonie William Stanley, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born on Oct. 23, 1933, in Floyd County, Va., to the late Dewey Ebbert and Nancy Ada Dalton Stanley. He graduated from Willis High School in 1953. Mr. Stanley served in the U.S. Navy during the mid-1950s. He retired from J.P.S. Elastiomperics, previously East Hampton Rubber Thread Company after 37 1/2 years of service. After retirement, he started working for Bannertown Baptist Church as a custodian where he has been a member since 1985. Mr. Stanley served as a deacon and in various other positions in the church including the Brotherhood and head usher. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna Harryman Stanley of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Lorne and Misty Stanley of Westfield; grandchildren, Karli and Kaden Willard; sisters and a brother-in-law, Beatrice Dalton of Winston, Agnes Newman of Vesta, Va., and Betty and Jimmy Williams of Hillsville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Clendon and Doris Stanley of Gotha, Fla.; six nieces and three nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Richard Dalton and Cecil Newman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Bannertown Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey Cogdil and the Rev. Carl Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanley Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
