MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Albert Montgomery (Monty) Blackmon Sr., 53, of 1102 Park Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born Feb. 28, 1959, in Baltimore, Md., to Zack Worrell Blackmon Sr. and Betty Bunker Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was a graduate of Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He was formerly employed by Spencer’s Inc. and was currently employed by the Hampton Inn of Mount Airy. He was a past member and coach with the Franklin Youth Foundation, a past member of the Mount Airy Lion’s Club and was a volunteer in the One-On-One Volunteer Program. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy. Surviving are a son, Albert Montgomery Blackmon Jr. and Albert’s wife, Rachel, of Clayton; mother, Betty B. Blackmon of Mount Airy; father, Zack W. Blackmon Sr. of Mount Airy; two sisters, Tanya Jones and husband, Hobert Jones, of Mount Airy and Deidre Rogers and husband, Mark, of Mount Airy; a brother, Zack W. Blackmon Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Mount Airy; three nieces, Deyton Rogers of Mount Airy, Jennifer Weber and husband Eric, of New York, N.Y., and Erin Haymore and husband, Daniel, of King; four nephews, Dustin Rogers and wife, Britni, of Mount Airy, Zach Jackson and wife, Jennifer, of Waxhaw, Dr. Richard Jackson and wife, Dr. Jennifer Jackson, of Winston-Salem and Zack Blackmon III and wife, Ashley, of Williamsburg, Va.; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. Roger Gilbert and Mr. Rodney Hiatt. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
