WINSTON-SALEM — Evelyn Simmons Dark, 90, passed away March 4, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Surry County to Roy and Fannie Eades Simmons. Evelyn was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church. She was employed by McLean Trucking Company for 32 years, retiring as assistant director of advertising. After retirement, Evelyn was a volunteer at Forsyth Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Caldwell Dark; her parents, two brothers, Calvin and Frank Simmons; a sister, Marian “Cub” Hatcher; a brother-in-law, Paul Dark and his wife Olivia; and two nephews, Reid and Eugene Simmons. Survivors are one son, Garry Caldwell Dark and wife Joan; four grandchildren, Travis, Allison, and Ashley Dark and Angela Lowry and husband Wes; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Gabriel Lowry; two nephews, Al Simmons and Hampton Hatcher; and two nieces, Linda Ann Cooke and Glenda Hedenskog. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Forsyth Memorial Park mausoleum chapel with the Rev. Dan Wilkers officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church Long-Term Capital Building Fund, 1000 Yorkshire Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106; or to the donor’s choice.
