MOUNT AIRY — Dr. James Grayson Hall Sr., 83, of Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Stokes County on Oct. 29, 1929, to the late John William and Blanche Pepper Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Miriam Hall Hunt and Winifred Hall Lawson Jackson; and one brother, John Lyman Hall. Dr. Hall graduated from Campbell College High School and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, with an bachelor’s in chemistry. He attended one year in the School of Public Health and graduated from the University of North Carolina Medical School. Dr. Hall was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy and, after his discharge, returned to North Carolina. Dr. Hall specialized in the Family Practice of Medicine in Dobson from 1961 until 1999. After his retirement in 1999, he continued on the staff of Hope Valley Inc. until Feb. 1, 2013. Dr. Hall was an active member of the Dobson United Methodist Church and served with distinction in the Dobson Lion’s Club and the Copeland Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Julia Hunnicutt Hall of the home; one son, James Grayson Hall Jr. of Fancy Gap, Va.; one sister, Ellen Prather Albritton of Mount Airy; six nephews; and one niece. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dobson United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. The Rev. Harry Sammons will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dobson United Methodist Church, P.O.
