Police reports

• A Mount Airy woman was charged Saturday with larceny and being a fugitive from justice after an incident at Walmart, according to city police department reports. Christy Nicole Hardy, 24, of 2978 Old Highway 601, was detained by store employees after allegedly trying to leave without paying for miscellaneous men’s clothing valued at $199. Hardy also was found to have been entered into the National Crime Information Center database due to being wanted on a unspecified offense in Virginia. She was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on July 20.

• Amanda Meredith Ratcliff, 34, of Sparta, is facing a violation of larceny by changing price tag, which was filed Sunday in connection with her alleged substituting of prices totaling $43 at Walmart. Ratcliff was released on a $500 unsecured bond, slated for a July 20 District Court appearance and banned from store property.

• Derrick Wade Thompson, 23, of 1478 N.C. 268, Pinnacle, was charged on May 6 with hit and run, displaying fictitious registration, no insurance, failing to register a vehicle and a stoplight violation after an investigation of an incident that day at the intersection of U.S. 52 and U.S. 601. Thompson’s court date is July 7.

• Travis Lee Shumate, 30, of 182 Lower Park Lane, was served on May 6 with outstanding warrants on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, which had been filed that day with Tony Lee Allen Jr. of Walkertown as the complainant. Shumate is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on June 3.

• Trista Renee Shumate Badgett, 23, of 3350 Pine Ridge Road, Lowgap, was served on May 6 with an outstanding warrant on an offense of making a false report to police, which had been issued through the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. No other details were listed for the case in which Badgett is to be in District Court on June 14.

• Sallie Michelle Dunn, 44, of 174 W. Pine St., was charged with the burning of personal property on May 5, stemming from a domestic disturbance in which she allegedly lit on fire miscellaneous clothing owned by her boyfriend, Gary Lee Cochran, in their residence and in the hallway of the apartment complex involved. No value was listed for the loss. Dunn was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond and is facing a June 1 appearance in Surry District Court.

• Damage to property occurred on May 5, when a known individual is said to have allowed a shopping cart to roll into and cause $450 in damage to the driver’s-side door of a 2015 Toyota Avalon owned by Roger Perdue Boyd of Taftwood Way. Boyd and Allstate Insurance are listed as victims of the incident.

• Power tools were discovered missing on May 3 as the result of a break-in of a residential property on West Church Street. Included were a Passload nail gun, a Hitachi pneumatic nail gun, a DeWalt miter saw and stand and a Porter circular saw, which were stolen from the kitchen and a closet. The victims were identified as Jimmy Dean Fulp of the Stone Crafters business on Ray Lake in Westfield and Randall Wayne Butner Jr. of Shelton Road, Westfield, an employee of that business. No value was listed for the property.
