The kindergarten classes at Dobson Elementary recently had some special visitors.

Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson and his team switched roles just for a short time, visiting the school as delivery doctors.

The sheriff and those with him delivered boy and girl pumpkins to the students to start off their Baby Pumpkin week activities. Pink and blue ribbons helped the students know if they had to pick a boy or girl name for their pumpkins.

After the visit, the students kept the pumpkins, with plans to do activities all week related to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum.

Atkinson, along with Deputy Cody Hudson, Deputy Donna Shelton. and Administrative Assistant Dawn Easter, made the deliveries, even dressing up in delivery room costumes.
