At the Oct. 3 meeting, the Surry County Board of Commissioners honored three recent county retirees.

Johnny W. Hiatt

Johnny W. Hiatt was employed from June 18, 1986 until his retirement on June 30, 2016, as an employee of the Public Works Department. During his term of service, Hiatt held the positions of landfill utility worker, equipment operator I and equipment operator II, a position he held from July 1, 1996 until his retirement. During his years of faithful service, Hiatt demonstrated outstanding mechanical skills. His grading and demolition abilities have also been a major asset to the Public Works Department and he has faithfully served Surry County as a caring and conscientious public servant. The Board wishes to publicly commend Johnny W. Hiatt for his service to the citizens of Surry County and wishes to express its appreciation for his years of dedicated employment, and extends to Johnny W. Hiatt its best wishes for many years of happiness during his retirement.

Billy R. Aldridge

Billy R. Aldridge was employed by the County of Surry from May 22, 1989, until his retirement on June 30, 2016, as an employee of Surry County Emergency Medical Services. During his term of service, Aldridge served as EMT and EMT-Paramedic, a position he held from February 15, 1990, until his retirement. He has made significant contributions to Surry County Emergency Medical Services and to the County of Surry, achieving numerous certifications, demonstrating exemplary skill levels, and contributing to his department and to his fellow employees. Aldridge, has led by example, bringing a high level of integrity and professionalism to Surry County Emergency Medical Services. During his years of faithful and dedicated service, Aldridge has earned the admiration and respect of his friends, colleagues, and fellow co-workers, and the Surry County Board of Commissioners wishes to publicly commend Mr. Aldridge for his commitment to the citizens of Surry County and wishes to express its appreciation and thanks for his twenty-seven years of dedicated service. The Board extends to Billy R. Aldridge its best wishes for many years of happiness during his retirement.

Dianne S. Hayden

Dianne S. Hayden faithfully served the citizens of Surry County from May 9, 1977, until her retirement on August 31, 2016, as an employee of the Surry County Tax Office. During her employment with the Surry County Tax Office, Hayden held the positions of key punch operator, data entry operator, data entry operator II, data entry specialist, tax mapper, senior tax mapper, GIS technician and finally land records manager, a position she held from October 21, 2010, until her retirement. Hayden was instrumental in the transition from a manual mapping operation to the current computerized mapping functions. The mapping efforts of the Surry County Tax Office are a true reflection of Mrs. Hayden’s dedication. Dianne S. Hayden has faithfully served Surry County as a caring and conscientious public servant. Hayden has given her entire career to learn and excel in all areas of the Surry County Tax Office. She performed each job with excellence and professionalism and during her years of faithful service, Hayden has earned the admiration and respect of fellow employees, friends, and colleagues. The Board publicly commends Dianne S. Hayden for her service to the citizens of Surry County and wishes to express its appreciation for her thirty-nine years of dedicated employment. The Board extends to Dianne S. Hayden its best wishes for many years of happiness during her retirement.
