Surry Central High School will host the annual Eagles’ Nest Basketball Camp for rising third through ninth graders on July 11-14 at the school.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on each of the four days. It covers basketball fundamentals, individual drills that the player can do at home, as well as games and competition. The camp is sponsored by the Surry Central boys’ and girls’ basketball programs. Coaches from the staff of Surry Central middle and high schools will serve as camp counselors, along with current Golden Eagle and Lady Eagle players. “We traditionally have around 100 kids, and we fill the week with skill development, competition, motivation and fun,” said SCHS head boys’ basketball coach Myles Wilmoth. “We have skill stations, leagues, records, and even going to lunch is a competition.”
The camp culminates with championship games and an awards ceremony on Thursday, July 14 at 4 p.m. Pizza, Gatorade, water and other concessions will be available all week.
“If you want to have fun and learn some basketball, the place to be is The Big SC,” said SCHS head girls’ coach Mandy Holt.
The cost of the camp is $100, but anyone who registers by June 20 can sign up for only $85. The cost includes a camp t-shirt.
