Surry Community College will host the 2016 Blue Ridge Basketball School at SCC from June 13 through 16. The camp is open to all rising third- through ninth-graders, male and female.
The camp is directed by Brad Davis, the head boys’ basketball coach at East Wilkes High School, assisted by a number of former players, along with current coaches and players. Coach Davis has been instructing area youth for 17 years at different levels. The Blue Ridge Basketball School was developed in part by his experiences as an instructor at other basketball camps.
The camp is held over four days. Every morning, the camp focuses on individual offensive and defensive concepts of the game of basketball. Stations will include shooting, passing, dribbling, ball handling, how to set a proper screen and man to man defense. Camp staff will work with each child individually and work to ensure the correct technique is learned. Each station will be geared to cover the fundamentals of the game of basketball.
Campers compete in skills contests and league games by age groups. Also, campers will have the opportunity daily to participate in “Set the Camp Record” contests.
The cost of the camp is $100, and campers are asked to register in advance. A family discount of $10 for each additional child in the immediate family is also offered. A camp t-shirt is included in the cost of registration. Campers should bring a bag lunch. Drinks will be sold at the camp site.
